GALLERY: Watercrest Mall Cupcakes Day a success
Almost 3000 cupcakes were sold by midday on Saturday at the Cupcakes for Hope fundraiser sale for children with cancer.
HILLCREST High School (HHS) learners baked over 300 cupcakes and iced a further three dozen donated by Oxford Hillcrest.
Oxford Hillcrest donated an additional 400 iced cupcakes.
HHS marketing manager Kim Blom said learners also volunteered at Watercrest Mall on Saturday, and sold cupcakes on the day – “roaming around the mall with trays of cupcakes and visiting stores to ensure tenants at the mall could also support the worthy cause”.
The team leader, Genevieve Liebenberg, the manager of Mugg and Bean at Watercrest, was the driving force behind the Cupcakes of Hope event at Watercrest Mall, motivating community members to get behind the cause and securing pledges of over 2600 cupcakes before the event.
Cupcakes of Hope is a Non-Profit Company (NPC) that strives to create awareness and educate the public on the early warning signs of childhood cancer, and raise much-needed funds for children with cancer.
Additional cupcakes were also delivered on the day and Mugg and Bean donated a full cake of the winner’s choice, as a lucky draw prize, which added to funds raised on the day.
