Learners injured in taxi accident on first day of fourth term

The 18 learners who sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious were stabilised on scene before being transported to various hospitals.

EIGHTEEN learners sustained injuries ranging from moderate to severe in a serious taxi accident on the N3 before Mariannhill Toll Plaza this morning, Monday, October 13.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived accidenton the scene to find total carnage after a single taxi transporting school children had lost control and overturned, coming to rest on its roof.

“Paramedics quickly set up a triage system and immediately called for more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics to assist with the multiple casualties on the scene.”

Jamieson reported that 18 children were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals.

He added that SAPS will investigate the cause of the accident.
