GALLERY: Food for life marks milestone

The organisation's chairperson Rajendra Rajpaul says they have grown from cooking with one pot and serving 200 meals when they started in 2020 to eight pots and 5000 meals in 2025.

FOOD for Life – Pinetown marked a significant milestone on Saturday, October 11, by providing 5000 meals to locals and residents from surrounding areas.

The organisation’s chairperson Rajendra Rajpaul said when the initiative was started in 2020 during lockdown one pot of food was cooked and served the community of Motala Heights.

“Thereafter, the need grew and we went to Wyebank, New Germany, Clermont, Hammarsdale, Intshanga, Bonela, Malvern and Pinetown, among others,” said Rajpaul who added that another highlight for the weekend was the cooking in eight pots.

The local branch of Food for Life started with serving just 200 meals and Rajpaul said this was thanks to all the sponsors, donors and volunteers who provided much needed support.

After the meals were prepared, these were distributed to the different areas.
