THE police will view the footage of the fatal drive-by shooting on Sunday outside the gate of an apartment complex on Bamboo Lane in Pinetown.

This was confirmed by Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu who said police were at the murder scene on Sunday morning.

“It is alleged that the deceased was along Bamboo Lane when he was shot by unknown suspects. Footage is available that will be viewed on Monday,” said Naidu following the incident.

Naidu said the motive behind the murder of a man of Nigerian nationality is unknown at this stage. She added that about 11 spent cartridges were found at the crime scene.

Residents in the area were left shaken following the shooting just after 11:20 on Sunday.

ALS Paramedics’ Garrith Jamieson said: “Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS already in attendance, with the road closed off. Paramedics were shown to a man who had been shot numerous times on the side of the road. Paramedics assessed the man, believed to be in his fifties, however, he showed no signs of life and was declared deceased on the scene.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the shooting are unknown, however, SAPS will be investigating further.”

It was reported that the man had multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body and that the suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
