NICOLAS Le Roux’s formal bail hearing is expected to take place on November 25, pending the readiness of his Legal Aid attorney, Waseem Hoffese.

Le Roux is charged with the murder of his wife, Taryn le Roux, who was killed at a pub in Westville on September 15.

He appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, November 18, following his appeal against Legal Aid’s initial decision not to represent him.

During the appearance, Legal Aid confirmed that it would take on his case on the basis that he is unemployed and has no source of income. In a previous court session, Le Roux stated that he works on contract and does not earn a salary while in South Africa, which is why he requires Legal Aid assistance.

During the proceedings, Hoffese consulted briefly with Le Roux, who made it clear that he intended to apply for bail. Hoffese then requested two weeks to prepare for the bail hearing, but the magistrate denied the request, granting only seven days.

The magistrate advised Le Roux to be patient and allow his lawyer the necessary time to prepare, emphasising the seriousness of the charges.

“You must bear in mind that he may not be ready. I ask you to give him time and a chance. Do not rush this, as it is a serious case,” the magistrate said.
