Watch: Armed suspects rob courier team at Pinecrest Mall

Armed suspects robbed a courier team of cellphones at Pinecrest Shopping Centre in Pinetown, with videos of the incident circulating online.

VIDEOS are circulating on social media platforms showing an armed robbery at a popular mall in Pinetown this afternoon.

In one of the videos, armed men are seen removing boxes from a trolley and loading them into a white vehicle.

In another video, a Metro Police car is seen driving past the scene after the heavily armed suspects instruct the officer/s to continue driving.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu reported that a case of armed robbery has been opened at the station.

According to Naidu, it is alleged that a courier team was delivering cellular devices to various stores inside Pinecrest Shopping Centre.

“They were escorted by an on-duty armed security officer.

“Approximately five armed suspects approached the team, threatened the security officer and courier employees, and robbed them of multiple cellphones as well as the security officer’s service pistol.

“No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.”

Naidu said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and ensure justice is served.

She alerted the public to be aware of their surroundings and remain vigilant.

“Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to Radio Control on 10111 / 082 557 8282 / 031 325 6794 / 031 325 6795.”

The Highway Mail sent an enquiry to the centre but it had not responded by the time of publishing.
