Two killed, one wounded in hail of bullets in Pinetown ambush

Pinetown police have appealed to anyone who can assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

PINETOWN police are appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of suspects following a deadly ambush that claimed two lives on Monday evening.

According to the station’s communications officer, Jennifer Naidu, three people were travelling in a silver Mercedes-Benz along Wilson Road in Caversham, Pinetown, when they were attacked by suspects in a white VW Polo with unknown registration plates.

“The Polo reportedly blocked the Mercedes-Benz before multiple shots were fired at the vehicle. In an attempt to escape, the driver reversed and nearly crashed into the fence of a nearby property,” said Naidu.

She reported that one passenger seated in the front was found dead inside the vehicle. “A second victim was discovered lying on the roadway and was declared dead at the scene. The third victim, a foreign national, survived the attack and was transported to hospital.

“The Mercedes-Benz was riddled with bullet holes across the right side, bonnet, and windscreen, with both front windows shattered. Crime Scene Investigators recovered several spent cartridges from the scene.”

Naidu said police condemned this violent attack. “Our detectives are working tirelessly to piece together every detail and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” she added.

Police are urging anyone with information about the suspects to contact 10111 or SAPS Pinetown Community Service Centre on 031 325 6794 / 031 325 6795 / 031 325 5079 / 082 557 8282.
