Metro Police out in full force for festive season
Durban Metro Police will increase freeway patrols and roadblocks over the festive season to manage traffic volumes and enhance road safety.
AS traffic volumes are expected to increase over the holiday season, the Durban Metro Police have confirmed that they will be out in full force on all the freeways in the city.
Durban Metro Police spokesperson Boysie Zungu said it was still too early to point out which roads across the municipality are expected to experience high traffic volumes.
“But what I can tell you is that our deployment in all the freeways leading to Durban will be present to ensure there are no accidents and no crimes and all goes accordingly, and if there is an accident, it is attended to swiftly,” said Zungu.
He added that it can be expected that during the holiday season the volume of traffic coming to Durban will increase, either on the N2, N3 or M4.

“But we manage that by deploying a sufficient number of officers to all those freeways, day and night,” said Zungu.
The metro police will also conduct roadblock operations during the festive season, with the issue of drinking and driving a priority.
Zungu advised motorists to ensure that they drive within the set speed limits of roads and do not excessively speed; ensure they rest and take breaks when taking long distance drives; and cautioned about the common issue of texting and driving.
”A person is busy on their cellphone whilst driving, that means the concentration is no longer on the road,” said Zungu, who concluded by advising against travelling in overloaded vehicles.
