World Read Aloud Day celebrated at the Pinetown District
World Read Aloud Day is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday of February. This year's theme was "My Story, My Language".
WORLD Read Aloud Day (WRAD) was celebrated by the KZN Department of Education (DoE) on Wednesday, January 4 at Sizimisele Primary School in Molweni which falls under the department’s Pinetown District.
WRAD is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday of February. This year’s theme was “My Story, My Language”.
The KZN DoE hosted the memorable day in partnership with Nal’bali. Nal’bali is a national reading for enjoyment campaign.

The principal of Sizimisele Primary School, Gugu Mabaso, welcoming guests, said: “Reading is important; it lays a good foundation for leaders of tomorrow.”
Sbongiseni Blose from Nal’bali outlined the day’s purpose, emphasising that adults should model reading to children.

“Children need spaces where they can go willingly to enjoy books and stories,” remarked Blose.
Learners participated in activities that promote reading for comprehension; these were storytelling, poetry, drama, and reading aloud. Learners displayed confidence while performing these activities.
Chief Education Specialist from Education Library and Information Technology Services, Thandanani Mavundla, said on behalf of the department: “Reading cuts across all areas of learning in and outside the school, reading opens imagination and the doors of hope.”
He also encouraged schools to respect the reading period. Reading has a profound impact on a child’s life.
