Church offers breakfast for the unemployed
After serving coffee and sandwiches for job seekers in New Germany, members of the United Methodist Church donated clothes to flood victims.
MEMBERS of the women’s branch of the United Methodist Church (UMC) from different districts gathered in New Germany on Saturday morning (February 28) to offer coffee and sandwiches for the unemployed who assemble in the area looking for part-time jobs.

This is done by these congregants once a year through donations made by church members.
After the morning, the women moved to Clermont to an area where flood victims are temporarily housed to donate clothes.

Reverend Thobekile Hoffman from the UMC Khwezi District said the plan is that these works of charity should eventually be done on a quarterly basis.

“This is a way of supporting the unemployed and the poor,” said Hoffman.

She added that the church’s future plans include initiating a skills development programme to empower the unemployed within local communities.
