Hillcrest investigator awarded for stellar work
Sergeant Batandwa Nomaqhiza was awarded for his investigative work which resulted in the conviction of a violent house robber.
A Hillcrest SAPS sergeant was recently awarded a certificate of appreciation by the district commander, Major General Makhosazana Victoria Kheswa, for his dedication and hard work which resulted in a conviction and sentence of an accused in a house robbery case.
The case dates back to October 30, 2023, when the convicted house robber, Lindokuhle Hadebe, robbed a house on Highbury Road in Hillcrest, an incident which saw the victim being violently assaulted.
Sergeant Batandwa Nomaqhiza was assigned to the case as an investigating officer after Hadebe was arrested on October 31, 2023.
Through stellar investigative work, Nomaqhiza helped to build a strong case against Hadebe who was found guilty by the court on October 20, 2025 and sentenced to eight years behind bars.
Kheswa awarded the certificate of appreciation to Nomaqhiza on February 17, 2026.

Sergeant Nomaqhiza was delighted to be recognised and appreciated by SAPS Management.
He said: “This motivated me to continue to give of my best, to ensure criminals are placed behind bars and to ensure the safety of our community.”
