Community steps up for welfare society

Pinetown-Highway Child & Family Welfare Society marks 94 years of supporting vulnerable children and families with vital care.

FOR nearly a century, Pinetown-Highway Child & Family Welfare Society has stood as a guardian for vulnerable children and families across the Pinetown and Upper Highway communities.

Now in its 94th year, the welfare society remain committed to protecting children, rebuilding families in crisis, and giving every child the opportunity for a safe and happy childhood.

The Welfare Society’s PA Nallini Munian expressed her gratitude to the community which has show up for them in desperate times.

“Over the past few months, generous residents, schools, churches, and businesses have come together in support, donating food parcels, clothing, household essentials, and much-needed financial contributions.

“These are more than just donations, they are lifelines. They help stock emergency supplies, sustain family counselling services, and ensure that critical child protection work continues uninterrupted,” she said.

Donation gratitude

Munian expressed gratitude to Global Z Data and MRBM Consultants, who donated fully equipped desktop computers.

“These tools are already transforming daily operations, allowing social workers to spend less time on administration and more time supporting families.

“We also wish to thank Bluff Meat Supply, for their ongoing and nourishing contributions.”

She also acknowledged the Wyebank Women’s Forum, and many other individuals and groups whose kindness continue to uplift those in need.

“The community kindness reminds us that when Pinetown and Highway pull together, we truly can build a brighter, safer tomorrow for our children.”

She added that every act of generosity, big or small, creates a ripple of change.

“A bag of groceries can ease a family’s burden for the week. A pair of school shoes restores a child’s confidence. Upgraded technology helps us respond faster to urgent cases. Together, these acts of compassion keep hope alive for children and families facing difficult circumstances.

“Pinetown-Highway Child & Family Welfare Society is more than an organisation, it is the heartbeat of our community’s commitment to protecting children and strengthening families.”

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
