Watch: Upper Highway young gymnast to represent SA

Faith Roodt is set to represent SA at the African Games in Pretoria later this month after winning the South African junior level trials.

KLOOF’S young gymnastic champ Faith Roodt will represent SA at the African Games in Pretoria at the end of April.

This comes after she won the SA junior level trials in Johannesburg recently.

To reach this level, Faith has worked with commitment and dedication. The 14-year-old trains six times a week for three hours at Ocean Rhythmic Gymnastics.

She said she is excited to be part of the junior team to compete against other African countries.

Faith started doing gymnastics when she was eight years old.

“I saw it on TV during Olympic games and I thought it would be a great sport for my daughters. Faith has been training full-time for the past two years which demands big commitment,” said her mother.

In gymnastics, there are four disciplines to be mastered – the ribbon, hoop, ball, and clubs.

“It is an amazing sport,” said Faith with a smile.

Her goal is to continue with gymnastics and take part in the 2032 Olympics.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
