South Africa’s top women bowlers head to Highway

This elite tournament brings together top female bowlers from across the country to compete in Fours, Pairs, and Singles disciplines across multiple venues, including Westville Country Club, Westville Bowling Club, and Hillcrest Bowling Club.

THE Highway area is set to become the centre of elite lawn bowls as Port Natal Bowls hosts the Bowls South Africa Women’s Open from May 2-10. The prestigious national tournament will bring together the country’s leading female bowlers to compete across Fours, Pairs and Singles disciplines.

With matches spread across several venues, including Westville Country Club, Westville Bowling Club and Hillcrest Bowling Club, the event promises high quality competition and broad community access. For many players, the tournament represents the peak of the domestic season, where seasoned competitors and emerging talent battle for national honours.

Local supporters will have a unique chance to watch top-level bowls up close, as Port Natal’s own players take on the nation’s best. Familiar names such as Natalie Botha, Alta Joubert, Sarie Bisset and Linda Didlick will feature in the singles at Westville Country Club, adding local interest to the competition.

Westville Country Club will act as a central hub, hosting sectional rounds in all formats. Pairs will take place on May 2 and 3, followed by singles on May 4. The venue will also stage the fours sectional rounds on May 5 and 6, further cementing its role as a key hub during the competition.
The Westville Bowling Club will showcase top contenders, including Commonwealth Games gold medallist Colleen Piketh.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
