Star College warmly welcomes eThekwini Mayor

eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba had a warm and memorable visit to Star College. He was treated to performances and a tour of the school.

ETHEKWINI Mayor Cyril Xaba was warmly welcomed at Star College recently, a visit which the school said will be remembered as a historic moment.

Upon entering the school premises, Xaba was welcomed with enthusiasm by the pre-school learners, who waved flags joyfully and expressed their excitement.

Two young learners presented the mayor with a teddy bear keepsake as a token of appreciation.

Accompanied by the principal, Ahmet Kayya, and Mustafa Eroglu, Horizon Educational Trust’s Secretary General, Xaba was led through various sections of the school, including the primary school classrooms, laboratory and robotics room.

The visit also included a brunch, during which Kayya delivered a speech highlighting the school’s rich history and the achievements of its learners over the years.

The school’s marketing manager Sarah Hayden said the highlight of the visit was an assembly featuring performances by the learners.

“The programme commenced with a heartfelt welcome from Head Boy Dante Lazarus and Head Girl Shreya Ballyram. The audience was captivated by a series of performances: a traditional African song by Girls High members Cebolenkosi Msomi, Anelisa Dlala, Yobuhle Vezi, Mathiya Mbatha and Mandy Jiba, an Indian classical dance by Diya Sewpaul, and a piano recital by learner Sophia Kamalie. A choir of Boys’ High members sang a beautiful rendition of a touching song.”

After the performances the principal introduced the mayor, who addressed the learners with humility and warmth.

Speaking to learners from Grade Seven through to matric, Xaba urged them to walk through life with purpose and to strive to make a positive difference in their communities.

At the end of his address, Xaba was presented with a gift of appreciation by the Secretary General and the principal.
