June 30 marches remain peaceful in Upper Highway
Marches reported from Pinetown CBD, Motala Heights and Cato Ridge had been reportedly peaceful and calm with no incidents.
THE June 30 marches in the Upper Highway area have remained peaceful and calm, while police presence and that of security personnel was reported from different locations.
Marchers were seen moving along Shepstone Road in New Germany on Tuesday morning headed for the Pinetown CBD.
SAPS, Durban Metro Police and other security personnel were seen in the Pinetown CBD as demonstrators made their way through the town.
It was reported that marches remained peaceful and calm in the Motala Heights area in Westmead, where an estimated 200 people had gathered, as well as in Cato Ridge.

However, unconfirmed reports from sources were that the situation in Wyebank was “getting a little out of hand”.




Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Police, Cassel Mathale, along with the Deputy Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Dickson Masemola, and the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour, Jomo Sibiya, as well as eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba, were due to host a roadblock at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza on Tuesday afternoon.
The roadblock followed a visit to the Joint Co-ordination Centre in eThekwini Municipality to witness the effectiveness of the cutting edge technology used to ensure the safety of residents and the marchers.
In a statement, the inter-ministerial delegation said: “We are encouraged by the spirit of co-operation amongst organisers of today’s demonstrations, ordinary members of society, and law enforcement agencies.”
