Monkey Helpline’s Steve Smit dies
Steve Smit will be remembered for his unconditional love for animals, especially vervet monkeys.
CONDOLENCES are pouring in for Monkey Helpline’s Steve Smit who died today (August 12).
Steve, alongside his partner Carol, dedicated their lives to giving monkeys a second chance.
They rescued the vulnerable, rehabilitated them with love and patience, and returned them to the wild where they belong.

In a post shared by Blue Bundu Brigade Animal Rescue on Facebook, it read that Steve’s compassion changed many lives, both seen and unseen.
“Steve fought a long and brave battle. He passed away this afternoon (Wednesday, August 12) leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength and unwavering dedication to the voiceless.
“Thank you, Steve, for the difference you made. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Our sincerest condolences to Carol, family and all whose lives Steve touched. May you find comfort in the incredible legacy he leaves behind.”
A Westville longstanding resident and nature lover, Jean Senogles, also sent her condolences to Carol and family.
“I’m so sorry Carol. Steve stood for a caring gentle soul. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time. Sending love and hugs x.”
