Convicted Kloof road rage murderer dies in prison
Correctional Services says Anthony Ball was receiving treatment in a high care unit at the Westville Prison due to a serious illness.
ANTHONY Edward Ball, who was convicted and sentenced for a 2022 murder that occurred during a road rage incident in Kloof, died recently while serving his time at the prison in Westville.
The spokesperson of the Department of Correctional Services, Singabakho Nxumalo, confirmed that Ball died recently and that he had been receiving treatment in the prison’s high care unit due to a serious illness.
“While we are unable to provide details regarding his health condition due to patient privacy regulations, we can share that he was serving a 12-year sentence for murder at the Westville Maximum Centre. The family has been informed in accordance with established procedures,” said Nxumalo.

Meanwhile, on September 30, the Pinetown Regional Court refused Ball’s application for leave to appeal his sentence and conviction.
Ball, who had pleaded not guilty, was recently sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment for the murder of Dean Charnley during a road rage incident in the Kloof area in 2022.
Ball’s legal representative, Advocate Gideon Scheltema, had previously told the court that the defence had filed the application for leave to appeal so that a higher court could determine whether a failure of justice materialised during proceedings.
On September 23, the court heard that Ball had fallen ill and had been hospitalised at the Westville prison.
