I am also anti plastic

A reader urges shoppers to add up the costs of buying plastis bags and weigh it up against making homemade shopping bags.

EDITOR – In response to the article in the Highway Mail of 26 September on the plastic bag issue by Sarah Alsen.

I too cannot understand why so many people use plastic bags. Have they added the cost of each bag purchased and taken over the year? It could be a reasonable amount which, instead of buying bags for their purchases, could be donated to charity.

I myself refuse to buy plastic bags and have made my own from off cuts bought at a local shop. I also have the green bags and others I made from parachute silk, very strong and easily washable. I have made bags for family and friends but sadly, they seem to forget them in the boot or don’t bother to go back for them once the car is locked.

Still, I keep trying to enforce the use of the homemade bags.
