Be patient and practice road courtesy

Reader encourages the Metro police to fine those who drive recklessly.

EDITOR – Since the road works began, drivers are frustrated at the delay in getting home so they go against the law and do as they please. A good example is the St John’s Avenue / Payne Street intersection. Cars are waiting in long queues down Payne Street, then a few irresponsible drivers overtake the whole line and double stand at the stop street, blocking cars from turning into Payne Street.

Then in Church Lane, drivers are coming up Church Lane from Beviss Road and if we are coming down the road, they will not give way, even though we have the right of way and it is a one-way down the road.

Two months ago, a driver in a silver Sirion, who apparently picks up his girlfriend in Church Lane outside Honda, swore at me and every time I see him, he swears at me, even though I ignore him to avoid a confrontation. While turning into my driveway recently, he swore at me. I am sick of his abuse. I have been to the police to see what I can do, but since I don’t have his name or address so no charges can be laid.

Now my partner and his friends want to do something about it but I don’t condone violence – it does not solve anything, it only makes it worse.

Please can the Metro Police monitor these two roads and fine the people who drive recklessly.
