Cry our beloved, and forgotten, New Germany

Writer says New Germany is plagued by so many issues and the Municipality has just turned a blind eye.

WHAT was once the pride and joy of the Highway area has now become the area’s forgotten child.

I have lived in this area for 14 years and am shocked at how quickly it’s gone to the dogs.

Men who make medicinal marijuana oil are arrested and made out to be the scum of the earth, while we lock ourselves in our homes before dark because the real criminals run our suburb.

We’re promised the sun, moon and stars before local elections, but afterwards, we’re forgotten, just like we have been for so many years.

We’re heading into day two of having not having water in some parts of New Germany (Wednesday, 19 January), but our councillor, who made all those wonderful promises less than a year ago, is nowhere to be found. Gosh, I don’t even know who he is.

We’ve had no communication from eThekwini Municipality about any water trucks being sent out. The only communication we received was a badly written SMS that basically states eThekwini Municipality doesn’t even know what the problem is.

Having no water is a weekly occurrence in New Germany and some nights, some residents even experience watershedding, not that they were at all notified of any watershedding being implemented.

When Jean Lindsay was still alive, we at least managed to get some sort of service here, and the worst part is, she was not the elected councillor for this area. But at least she had some pride and wanted to look after the people of New Germany.
