I LIVE at The Birches Complex, on Entabeni Road in Paradise Valley.
Last week all cars parked on either side of the road were fined.
I received a fine of R500.
The reason was “parking to cause danger.”
Most units have one parking bay and residents who have more than one vehicle have no alternative but to park on the street.
The road has almost four lanes. One lane on either side of the road is used for parking and the other two lanes are free for vehicles to pass, even a truck can pass by without any difficulty.
Although Entabeni Road is a public road, there is no other road so it does not lead to anywhere else but to the complex.
This means only residents or their guests use this road.
I believe that these vehicles are being targeted unfairly as they are not causing any danger or obstruction whatsoever.
It seems as though this is an easy form of revenue.
Residents are compelled to park on the side of the road and these traffic officers can ticket vehicles as often as they like, every week if they wish to.
If this is not addressed, residents will be expected to pay fines for as long as they live there.
