Take note of Comrades road closures

Roads in and around Durban will be closed during the course of the weekend.

THE Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has announced that new road closures are in place for this year’s race, due to the change of venue at the finishline.

The world famous marathon takes place this year on Sunday, 4 June.

The up run starts at 5.30am outside Durban City Hall and finishes 12 hours later at the Scottsville Racecourse.

 

Motorists are urged to be aware of road closures:

Saturday, 3 Jun:

  • Dr Pixley Ka Seme Street (West Street) between Dorothy Nyembe Street (Gardiner Street) as well as Samora Machel (Aliwal Street), from 5pm to 7am.
  • Samora Machel Street, between Monty Naicker (Pine) Street and Anton Lembede (Smith) Street will be closed from midnight to 7am.

 

Sunday, 4 June:

  • Samora Machel Street (Aliwal Street) between Monty Naicker Street (Pine Street) and Anton Lembede Street (Smith Street)  (midnight to 7am)
  • Sherwood – 45th Cutting (from 4am to 7.30am)
  • Cowies Hill (from 4.30am to 8.30am)
  • Pinetown & Fields Hill (from 4.45am to 9.15am)
  • Kloof (from 5am to 10am)
  • Hillcrest (from 5.30am to 11am)
  • Botha’s Hill (from 5.40am 11.30am)
  • Drummond (from 6am to 12.30am)
  • Cato Ridge (from 7am to 2.30pm)

 

The following routes will be closed the whole weekend.

  • Polly Shortts to CB Downes Road (R103) direction Pietermaritzburg
  • Gladys Manzi Road (previously Murray Road)
  • Cleland Road
  • Blackburrow Road
  • Fairfield Avenue
  • Ridge Road
  • New England Road
  • Harwin Road
  • Taylor Street
