AN article in a recent Sunday Tribune quotes Parboo Sewpersad saying: “They always ensured that traffic was flowing and that fines were issued to those who violated the laws”.
If he has been correctly quoted then nothing is further from the truth.
There are moving violations, including NDM vehicles, every few minutes at the major intersections in Pinetown and New Germany, and in several minor intersections.
No Metro Police in sight and no fines issued.
Since Metro moved away from their offices in New Germany to Westville, they have been an extremely rare sight, except when they are shopping on a Saturday morning.
We pay the same rates as everyone else in this Metro so we are entitled to the same service. One cannot complain about Metro Police service here, there simply is none.
Having called in to report two vehicle accidents, with zero response because, “the staff that man the phones are not employed by Metro Police, so if they don’t notify us we are not responsible”.
The number 031 361 0000 (as advertised on their website – Fire Department and Metro Police: 031 361 0000) is supposedly the number for all emergencies. Well somebody should tell Metro Police that.
Nothing but an out and out disgrace.
I suggest that our rates be reduced by the percentage that goes to Metro, backdated to their move.
We are being charged for a service we are not getting.
