HVJRC players end season on high
The Hillcrest Villagers Junior rugby teams nabbed a mixed bag of results in their final games at the Crusader's Rugby Club recently.
THE DRSU Youth Rugby finals yielded a mixed bag of results for the Hillcrest Villagers Junior Rugby Club, where four of the club’s team contested the leagues finals at Crusaders Rugby Club recently.
The U13B took gold in the first match of the day by default when their opposition failed to arrive for the match. Their U13A team counterparts had a tougher time of it, coming up against a very strong Collegians outfit and had to settle for silver this season – going down 10-31 at the final whistle with Kyle Kilfoil scoring two tries for Hillcrest.
The U15B team came up against a Collegians outfit who have improved week on week, throughout the season. This time the Kings Park based club scored a 5 – 36 drubbing and Hillcrest once again having to settle for the silver medals. A gargantuan effort made by Alex Little, who put his body on the line and played courageously in attack and defence and scored the only try of the day.
The U16 match saw the Hillcrest boys came out firing in the first half, playing most of the rugby and looking likely to win the encounter. But the Varsity College team came back strongly in the second half. The final score of 15-14 earned Hillcrest their second set of gold medals of the day. The match was compared to taht of any school U16A match in the province, purely for the excitement and entertainment value it created. Shaun Stoltz and Tristan Dixon crossed the whitewash for Hillcrest with Bryce Kitching adding the extras via a conversion and a penalty.
