Lahee Park’s BMX track to get new look

Ward 18 councillor Tim Brauteseth has approved an expenditure of R10 000 from the Friends of Lahee Park fund to start the work of clearing and restoring the BMX track.

LAHEE Park Cycling Club has recently renovated the existing BMX track and has big plans for its future use.

The track, which was abandoned many years ago, has found a new lease on life after the involvement of Fanie van der Walt of the Lahee Park Cycling Club and Tim O’ Brien of the KZN BMX.

They approached ward 18 councillor Tim Brauteseth who in turn approved expenditure of R10 000 from the Friends of Lahee Park fund to start the work of clearing and restoring the track.

This work was recently done and the track, although not complete, is already being used by local residents. The use of the track is free at present and residents are invited to go along and enjoy the facility.

There are big plans for completing the track and its surrounds to become a world-class facility. Once the track and BMX Club are up and running and affiliated to KZN Cycling, provincial and national competitions will be held at Lahee Park.

“This development is just another in the positive developments at Lahee Park. In 2012, we started the Friends of Lahee Park fund and use the Oddball Olympics as the main fundraiser. Using the funds raised, which are kindly administered by the Lions Club of Cowies Hill, we have been able to provide financial assistance to clubs at Lahee Park to improve their facilities. This is all part of an initiative to improve Lahee Park to attract residents to enjoy the facilities with their families,” said Brauteseth.

Residents wishing to enquire about joining the BMX Club or using the facility are welcome to contact Tim O’ Brien on 082 771 3081 or Fanie van der Walt on 084 457 7999.
