Hungry Mynahs denied victory

The KZN U17 Mynahs team faced off against the Crickets last Friday afternoon.

THE KZN Mynahs U17 team took on the Kloof-based Crickets for a 30 over match in their third game this year.

The match took place at the Luther field at the Kloof Country Club and the U17 team were hungry for a win.

Past Mynahs player and current Dolphins player, Cameron Delport, was on their opposition’s team list, which excited the boys greatly. Crickets batted first, and the boys were clearly up for the match as they are reported to have bowled well. Jason Petzer took the prized wicket of Delport, clean bowling him early on, a wicket he will surely treasure for some time. Crickets reached 137 runs in the 30 overs.

James Martin and Bryce Tullis opened the batting and Mynahs seemed to be cruising to a win with the boys running extremely well between the wickets and shared an opening stand of 75. Tullis was then stumped for a well-played 33, James Martin soon followed, and the collapse began. The boys succumbed to the experience of the Crickets and needed 22 from the final over. James Tedder hit two sixes off the first two balls of the over, but the Mynahs eventually lost by 4 runs

“They have been given the opportunity of playing a high level of cricket, and have certainly shown they are capable of playing and competing at that level. With the right application and experience, I am sure that we will see many of these boys making the next step up in the years to come. It has been a very enjoyable week so far, and I look forward to the last few matches with the boys,” said Colin Chater, manager of the Mynahs U17 cricket team.
