Join the fun in the sun

The annual uMhlanga Summer Beach Festival promises tons of fun in the sun for beach goers during the December holidays.

PLENTY of  fun and interesting activities await the young and old at this year’s annual uMhlanga Summer Beach Festival, hosted by uMhlanga Tourism, from Saturday 7 December to Sunday 22 December on the uMhlanga Main Beach and Village.

Daily Activities

The year-end fun-filled carnival festival promises to entertain beach goers with daily fun and games as well as talent competitions from Monday 9 December to Sunday 22 December. The activities will take place on the uMhlanga Main Beach’s Millennium Beach Stage from 10am to 2pm, and Kevin Ellis will MC.

Beauty Pageant

On Wednesday 11 December and Wednesday 18 December the Millennium stage will also host the uMhlanga Beauty Pageant. The competition is open to girls aged 16 and older. The young beauties will be required to strut their stuff on stage from 12pm to 1pm. The finals will be held on Saturday 21 December from 12pm to 1pm. Liberty Summer Trail Run and Walk

Trail blazers will also be able to participate in the summer version of the 2013 uMhlanga Liberty Trail Run and Walk, which will take place on Sunday 15 December at 6am

Entries are now open and for the first time the event will cater for three events: a 5km and 12km run and walk as well as an 18km trail run. To enter please visit the ROAG web site on www.ROAG.co.za.

Entrance costs R40 for the 5km run and walk, R80 for the 12km run and walk and R100 for the 18km run. Late entries will be accepted on the day.

Carols by Candlelight

In light of the festive season beach goers will be treated with a selection of beautifully chosen Christmas carols and seasonal songs sung by carollers with audience participation at the annual Granada Square Carol Service on Thursday 19 December at 6.30pm, at the Granada Square in the Village. Guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped gift for distribution to the less fortunate, in an initiative supported by Rotary.

There will also be a Harley parade by members of the Harley Davidson HOGs culminating at Granada square at 6.30pm, and Father Christmas is anticipated to arrive at 7pm.

Chartwell Drive Street Party

On Saturday evening, 21 December, from 6pm until midnight Chartwell Drive will be closed to traffic to enable a free family-friendly street party. There will be various entertainers, such as fire jugglers, mascots and clowns, and there will be stalls selling festive items. Plenty of al-fresco meal options and live music will also be available.
