Take a nature hike

Saturday 5 September

Hike the new Saturday hike, Silverglen Nature Reserve, Chatsworth. Meet at 1.45pm at the visitors centre at the reserve.

Travel on the N2 south from Durban towards Amanzimtoti. Take the Chatsworth / Higginson Highway off-ramp (Exit 154) and turn right. Travel west on Higginson Highway for approximately 2km, then turn left into Havenside Drive. Turn left again into Silverglen Drive. Turn left into Headland Avenue, keeping right into Mountain View Drive. Turn left into Montdene Drive, left into road 702, and left again into road 703. Turn left into Lakeview Drive and travel along this road to the reserve entrance. Grading 2 – moderate. Contact hike leader Linda Smith on 083 353 8319.

Sunday 6 September

Hike Table Mountain KZN, take your water bottles and lunch. A very easy hike to view this absolute treasure. See glacial scars, sunken forests, the crevasse, underground stream, the wetland and the Natal Protea. Drive to PMB turn off at Ortman Road and right over the N3. Turn right at the second traffic light and left at the second traffic light. All sign posted “Table Mountain”. Turn right at the signpost to Table Mountain and drive 12km to the end of the tar. Turn right immediately at the dirt road, drive to the mountain and park at the school alongside it. Please note the early start time, 10am sharp. Hike cost R20 each person, the money is carefully spent in social upliftment by this marvellous community so ably lead by Inkosi Mdluli. Contact David on 072 615 0559.
