Businesses invited for a healthy challenge

he event, which takes place for the 30th time, will be held on Saturday, 14 November and is sponsored by KPMG.

DURBAN will host the country’s longest-standing business event of its kind, the 2015 KPMG Business Relay, which gives businesses the chance to enjoy a healthy afternoon of team-building and camaraderie.

The event, which takes place for the 30th time, will be held on Saturday, 14 November and is sponsored by KPMG.

Farouk Karreem, managing director of KPMG’s KZN operation, said being fit for business means a lot more than purely aiming for a healthy bottom line.

“A physically healthy workforce is proving to be a critical success factor at all levels of an organisation,” he said.

KPMG’s fully-fledged running club will be represented at the 2015 KPMG Business Relay next month and will include some of the top athletes that receive elite sponsorships as part of #KPMGFit4Business. The sponsors will also be bringing down five young athletes in support of the Athletics Academy at Vorentoe High School in Johannesburg. This is part of KPMG’s extensive and broad funding of the academy, which has grown to 30 athletes – mostly from rural and disadvantaged backgrounds – since it’s inception in 2000.

The academy has produced some of the country’s top athletes, including 2013 winner of the SA Sports Woman of the Year award, and as many as 18 athletes for the Gauteng schools team over the past two years.

High schools will compete in their own race alongside the main business relay event, which remains a calendar event for companies across KZN and as far afield as Johannesburg.

The challenge is out to all businesses to enter 5km run or walk and there is also a wheelchair category open to teams of three. Entries for the event are now open until registration day on Friday, 13 November and further sites have been added to the festive tent town, where many companies enjoy year-end functions.

To book a site or enter teams, businesses may enter online at www.kpmg.co.za, collect an entry form from a Mr Price Sport store in the region, contact PMB Sports Promotions on 033 341 0790 or e-mail businessrelay@kpmg.co.za.
