Runners lace up for parlauf

More than 200 runners took part in the Westville Athletics Club's parlauf event last Friday evening.

WESTVILLE Athletics Club kicked off the 2016 cross country season with the annual parlauf, which took place at its grounds last Friday evening.

Parlauf is a team event, with each team consisting of two runners. The course they competed in last Friday was one kilometre in length and the team members alternated and ran the laps necessary for their age group and category.

There was a 2km (1x1km) mob race for all U12 age groups and girls and boys U13, U14, U15, U16, and U17 competed in a 4km (2x1km each) event. Women U19, senior and 35-plus competed in a 6km (3x1km) race and the men’s and mixed teams, U19, senior and 35-plus competed in an 8km (4x1km each) event.

Boys and gilrs U12: 2km (1x1km each)

Boys and girls U17: 4km (2x1km each)

Open women: 6km (3x1km each)

1. Melody Olivier and Lise Muchna 23:15

3. Fiona Baldwin and Michelle Sims 24:25

 

Mixed team: 8km (4x1km each)

1. Claude Eksteen and Trish Bahlmann 27:45

2. Jonathan Henry and Caylee Ellero 28:43

3. Gareth Brockett and Cary-Ann Smith 30:12

 

Open men: 8km (4x1km each)

1. Sipho Mbanjwa and Sphiwe Ndela Phantane 25:30

2. Mbhasobhi Gumede and Silelo Ngobese 25:59
