Winter cricket training for youngsters

Chairman of the club, Mike Richman said playing cricket goes beyond keeping children fit.

THE winter season is fast approaching and chilly days experienced lay claim to that. One way to warm up is by joining an exciting pre-cricket season with the Hillary/Malvern Cricket Club which will starts its winter cricket training from Saturday, 4 June to Saturday, 27 August.

Chairman of the club, Mike Richman, said playing cricket goes beyond keeping children fit. “The idea of this training is to not only keep our kids ‘Cricket Fit’ but we aim to have them gain more experience and improvement in their abilities. In doing this, when we enter the new season and fourth school term, they will be ready and eager for their games.

The more exposure that the kids have in playing cricket will directly result in them excelling better in the sport itself,” he said.

By playing for a club, Richman said that your child’s ability in the game will be boosted to a level that will help him or her in the future. “This is a skill that will help them both mentally, physically and socially in all areas of their life. Club cricket is not just about playing games every Sunday, or not being good enough or even being too good, it is about being exposed to the game as well as learning how to enjoy and play the game. Skills that are attained via a club is where your child will gain experience and learn to understand the basic skills and rules of the game,” he said.

Club training is open to all children, both boys and girls. All current members, non-members and potential new members are welcome to join the programme. “Our aim is for all children to not only attend our club but to learn and enjoy being part of a team.”

Parents wanting to give their children or themselves an opportunity of learning to play the game of cricket or even to increase and develop their children’s knowledge, experience and exposure to the game, are encouraged to join or send their children to the Hillary/Malvern Cricket Club.
