Runners lace up for annual 25km race

PDAC's Brenda McCann said there were 1255 finishers on the day.

HUNDREDS of running enthusiasts gathered at Watercrest Mall in the early hours of Sunday for the Pinetown and Districts Athletic Club’s annual 25km run.

Max Botha, a member of the Pinetown and Districts Athletic Club said, “This is my 40th year of involvement with the PDAC 25 from organising marshals, tables getting approval from the Traffic Department, sponsorships and of course participating.

“In 1984 we had to request participants to take along two litres of water because of the water restrictions then which limited households to 400 litres per day.

“At the prize-giving that day, the first black and ominous clouds of Cyclone Demoina appeared from the North East resulting in half a years rain’pelting down in three days.”
