Action-packed sports weekend for Kearsney

KEARSNEY College had another action-packed weekend of sports, participating in the annual Independent School’s Cricket Festival, the St Johns U19 schools’ basketball tournament and the Durban and Districts Gala.

Kearsney’s 1st X1 travelled to Albans College in Pretoria for the annual Independent Schools Cricket Festival where rain played a role this year, washing out several games. Kearsney managed to play two games, winning both.

Kearsney beat Kingswood College by three wickets. Kearsney’s bowlers – Carl Heunis bowled 2/14 in 4 overs and Jarod Brien 1/9 in 4 overs which saw Kearsney restrict Kingswood to 112 in this T20 match. A fine knock of 45 not out by Daniel Cherry saw Kearsney home by three wickets.

Kearsney beat Cornwall Hill College by 122 runs. Kearsney’s superb team batting display in challenging conditions saw them reach 244/7. Robbie Koenig scored 60 and Luke de Vlieg 50, with valuable contributions from Blaise Carmichael (30) and Steven Conway (27 of 19 balls). Some outstanding bowling, again from Carl Heunis (2/16 in 5 overs), and Jarod Brien (2/13 in 5 overs), saw Kearsney winning by 122 runs.
