Westville ends third term sport on high note

"It was a great representation of the strength and popularity of KZN schoolboy football."

WESTVILLE wrapped up their third term sport on a high this weekend, with no losses in any teams in water polo, football, golf and softball.

The 1st softball team, in particular, celebrated their third season in a row undefeated.

The 1st football team lost only one game this term, ending their season with an emphatic 3-1 defeat against DHS at DHS in front of a capacity crowd.

In golf, the 1st WBHS team beat Kearsney’s 1st team 3-1 while the 1st water polo team recorded a 9-2 win over Thomas More.

In the football game against DHS, it was once again star striker, Jordan Schwartz, who stepped up to the plate, scoring his third hattrick this season.

Despite DHS scoring the opening goal, Westville equalised early, through a long attacking throw which found its way to Westville striker Jordan Schwartz, who tapped in at the back pole for an easy finish. Jordan then converted a spot kick for his second goal of the game in the 24th minute through a penalty when Westville midfielder Ryan Way, made a penetrating run into the DHS box, before he was tripped.

Westville’s third goal in the 51st minute came when midfielder Bonga Makhanya played a piercing through-ball to striker Jordan Schwartz, who took a touch and calmly slotted the ball passed the DHS keeper into the bottom left corner of the net.

It was a great representation of the strength and popularity of KZN schoolboy football – a large crowd attended the game, as did both schools’ drum lines and parents. Special mention must also be made of DHS’s great hospitality and organisation on the day. They put together an impressive day of football.
