Hillcrest Villagers rake in double weekend win
The Ballito Dolphins pushed the local team to its limits during the recent away games.
THE Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club travelled to Ballito on Saturday to take on their first division rivals, the Ballito Dolphins.
In the 2nd XV match, the visitors were made to work hard to recover from their setback last week against the Westville Old Boys’ Rugby Club.
It was a tough encounter with some big hits dished out by both sides.
The Villagers won the match with a score of 15 – 0. Man of the Match went to Shaldon Lourens (forwards) and Daniel Mulder (backline).
The 1st XV encounter showed that Dolphins had done their homework and were ready for the ‘Men from the Crest’. Due to early season injuries, the local team arrived with a side that was short five key players and had to dig deep to use their yet untested player depth.
The visitors were pushed hard from the outset, with a very early try going to the Dolphins.
Despite the Villagers’ best efforts, the Dolphins were resolute in their defence and continued to thwart the visitor’s attacks. In the second half, the Villagers surged ahead and ended the match with a 15 – 8 victory. Man of the Match went to Kyle “Spowey” Spowart (forwards) and Brandon Young (Backline).
The Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club’s head coach, Mike de Kock, gave credit to his team who ground out a well earned victory.
The Villagers will take on the Durban Mets at the Westville Correctional Services’ Rugby Stadium on Friday, 13 April from 7pm.
