Exciting programmes await Clermont Eco clubs

One of the exciting features for Phase 3 will be the planned internet conference between learners at Christianenburg Primary School with learners from Wensum Primary School in the United Kingdom.

IN both Phase 1 and 2 of the Aller River Pilot Project, the Eco-champ ran Eco-clubs at the six Clermont schools with which the project has engaged.

In February, University of Cambridge researcher, Dr Elsa Lee, handed out certificates of participation to the schools and thanked them for their ongoing commitment to environmental education.

The aim of the project is to rehabilitate the rivers in each of the 17 catchments in the eThekwini municipal area

The eco-club programme has now been extended for Phase 3 and new learners have been recruited into the programme.

The plan is to continue with typical environmental education activities which include items on water pollution, invasive alien plants and the ongoing development of the key-hole gardens which have been a great success.

One new feature of the programme will be the design by school learners of environmental posters with a focus on river pollution. We hope to share some of the designs with you in future e-newsletters.

Another exciting feature for Phase 3 will be the planned internet conference between learners at Christianenburg Primary School with learners from Wensum Primary School in the United Kingdom.

The learners will exchange information about their experiences in their local environments.
