Curro claims derby day victory

Curro Hillcrest took on St Henry's Marist College at a derby day event at the weekend.

CURRO Hillcrest hosted an exciting derby day against St Henry’s Marist College on Saturday with sports that ranged from rugby and hockey to netball.

“This was a fast-moving event as there was always a different team playing and a good-natured, competitive spirit throughout the fixtures,” said Curro’s marketing manager, Fiona Johnson.

The primary school’s 1st team played the curtain-raiser game for the Curro Hillcrest boys’ 1st XV rugby game.

“This was the first time in the history of the school and much excitement for the primary school boys as they were supported by the high school team, cheering them from the sideline and shouting game plans,” said Fiona.

The main game was a physically challenging one, but Curro Hillcrest 1st XV lead from the start and secured a final win with 19 – 10 against St Henry’s.

The home crowd support contributed to the fun, festive atmosphere of this annual Derby Day.
