Team Dark Horse claims joBerg2c victory

Even though they encountered a few hiccups during the nine-day race, Team Dark Horse continued to surprise as they climbed back to the top of the ladder.

SHAUN-NICK Bester and Andrew Hill, of Team Darkhorse Wheels, completed a clean-sweep of stage wins and won the team category at the joBerg2c mountain bike race recently.

The pair completed Friday’s stage from Ixopo to Highflats in a time of 3:54:43, seven minutes ahead of the Cool Beans duo of Gerrie Beukes and Johan Labuschagne.

With an overall lead of 85 minutes over Craig Uria and Luke Evans (Team Sage), Andrew and Shaun-Nick just needed to complete the final neutral stage to Scottburgh on Saturday to confirm their victory.

Things did not go to plan on the Friday and there were a few worrying moments for the duo soon after the start of the eighth stage.

“Our morning did not start well,” said Andrew. “We rolled down the first hill after the start and two km in we had a puncture that would not seal up. We had to stop and put a plug in which meant we lost the front group.”

“We fixed it, chased back and neared the front, with Matthys (Beukes) and HB (Kruger) just ahead of us. Shaun-Nick had a little crash when his front wheel washed out on one of the corners. When he went down his, handlebars twisted so we lost a little more time there,” said Hill.
