FOURTEEN learners and two educators from Thomas More College were fortunate enough to go on an epic adventure to northern Vietnam with Jonathan Tucker from World Challenge during the school holidays.
The trip took on three different aspects with each one as different and exciting as the next.
Hanoi, a vibrant and colourful city, with nine million people and five million scooters, became the group’s home base.
From there they ventured to their first destination, Ba Be, where they participated in community outreach. The project involved digging a septic pit for one of the local families living there.

The second destination was a three-day trek in the beautiful, hilly Sapa Valley where they had the opportunity to meet the hill tribes. Here, the group was hosted in homesteads in their lovely villages and learned a little about their culture.
The last destination was to Ha Long Bay, a World Heritage site, with about 2 000 islets popping out of the sea. The group was lucky enough to enjoy a boat cruise around these islets and a swim in the sea.
The experience of a new culture enriched all senses from the beautiful scenery to the tastes of the Vietnamese cuisine.
The group thanked the parents and the accompanying educators for the experience.
