Double victory for Westville Boys’ High
It was to be a day of many tries, with Westville scoring another five tries through Cameron Best with two, Kgopotso Matlena, Teague Loelly and Josh Aigner.
WESTVILLE Boys’ High School’s 1st hockey and rugby teams gave visiting Old Boys exactly what they came for this weekend at the school’s annual Reunion Weekend.
Both teams had emphatic wins, ending both sporting seasons on a high note.
Westville ended their 1st XI hockey season playing 18 official games, winning 15 and drawing 3.
It is the first unbeaten season in the Westville 1st team’s history.
After a defensive game from both sides in the first half, with no score, Westville came out raring to go in the second half and applied some early pressure.
The home team won their 6th Penalty Corner of the game and finally broke the deadlock, with Luke Allen flicking low into the bottom corner.
This boosted the team’s morale giving them the push they needed.

Kearsney scored minutes later with their first and only Penalty Corner of the game, with Chase Kelly dispatching the ball low into the bottom corner to level the game up.
They made it 3-1 when Ethan Matkovich scored from a penalty corner with a well taken flick. Kearsney came out hard to try take control of the game again, but they were punished and went down to 10 men on two more occasions.
Westville 1st Hockey team ended an incredible season with the 3-1 win against Kearsney. The season concluded with a strong sense of morale, accomplishment and brotherhood amongst the boys, who worked incredibly well as a team. This evident in their fantastic results.
The Westville 1st XV Rugby Team played an entertaining game of rugby, scoring 6 tries to win 34-12, and made their old boys proud on Old Boys’ day against Kearsney.
The 1st XV Team game started with both teams having a go at one another but both defences were determined to not let the opposition through.
Kearsney could only hold Westville off for 11 minutes though when Mambo Mkhize received the ball out wide and raced away down the touchline for Westville’s opening try.
