Westville Old Boys triumph against local rivals
The Westville Old Boys' Rugby Club will move on to the second round of the Hollywoodbets Murray Cup.
THE Westville Old Boys’ Rugby Club welcomed their friends from up the hill, the Land Rover Durban Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club, to play in the first round of the knockout Hollywoodbets Murray Cup on Friday, 9 August.
The Murray Cup was founded in 1890, and is named after Sir TK Murray. He was appointed in June 1890 as the first president of the Natal Rugby Union, which is known today as the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union. He presented the union with its first trophy, The Murray Cup, to be used for challenge/knockout competitions.
The Murray Cup is now the oldest knockout rugby competition in world rugby.

The tournament format sees eight KZN 1st division teams host the premier leagues teams in the first qualifying rounds. The Westville Old Boys’ Rugby Club, as the winners of the 2019 first division league, were classified as a premier division club and were drawn against their closest rivals, the Hillcrest Villagers’ Rugby Club.
The teams entertained a great home crowd with a hard-fought and entertaining game. Westville Old Boys won with a score of 40 to 12.
Westville will play UKZN Pietermaritzburg in the second round and the match will kick off in Pietermartizburg on Saturday afternoon.
