In complete contrast to the previous week, where Westville started the game attacking and camped in Glenwood’s half, this time around it was Westville who were camped in their half defending for large parts of the opening 20 minutes,” reported WBHS rugby first team coach, Njabulo Zulu.
Michaelhouse sent wave after wave of attacks through their big forwards, but Westville stayed calm and organised on defense. Michaelhouse had the first opportunity to get the scoreboard ticking but the kick was missed. Westville finally managed to get into the opposition half and converted their penalty to take the lead.
The game went back to another period of having to absorb the relentless and determined attack of Michaelhouse. Yet again Westville stood firm. A lineout on the halfway mark resulted in some slick handling to put the returning flyhalf Tiaan Kriek into space. He stepped and swerved to dot down for a wonderful try which took Westville 10-0 up at the half time break.
Michaelhouse returned after the half time break with renewed vigour and were rewarded with two unconverted tries. The game stayed at 10-10 for a time, with both teams exchanging hard plays for the ball, but neither able to convert those plays into points.

The killer blow came eventually with from captain Bryce Calvert who took a quick tap, powered through the defenders and dotted down. The conversion was successful to take the score to 17-10.
WBHS 1st XI Hockey were happy to come away with a win against Michaelhouse as well, especially after an emphatic win against Glenwood the week before, and can take great pride in turning around a 2-0 deficit early on to win the game 3-2.
