Jazz bassist grooves into Durban
South African bassist, Herbie Tsoaeli, will perform at two venues in Durban this November.
INTERNATIONALLY-acclaimed bassist and SAMA award-winning jazz luminary, Herbie Tsoaeli, will embark on a nationwide tour, performing in Durban on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December.
Herbie Tsoaeli has developed the reputation of being one of the most accomplished, respected and in-demand bass players – both electric and acoustic – in South Africa. His performances are often referred to as joyful and he is known to love improvising and free-styling. He allows the energy of his fellow musicians and the mood of the audience to impact on the mood and feel of each performance.
His album, African Time, won him a SAMA award for Best Jazz Album in 2013. African Time showcases his true talent by allowing a myriad of influences from across genres and idioms to influence his performance style.
The line up for the Durban leg of the tour consists of celebrated drummer Kesivan Naidoo, joined by Mthunzi Mvubu on sax, and Mdu Mtshali playing the piano.
On Saturday 30 November he will perform at the KZNSA Gallery, 166 Bulwer Road in Glenwood, at 6.30pm.
