Baroque 2 000 concert features Earth Sounds

Tickets for this concert of intriguing music are R120 at the door.

‘EARTH Sounds’ is the title of Baroque 2 000’s next musical concert at the church of the monastery in Mariannhill on Sunday, 31 May at 3pm.

In the programme are pieces with striking musical descriptions and depictions: Jean-Féry Rebel’s extraordinary ‘Les Elemens’ conjures up chaos, earth, air, fire and water, as well as the magical calls of the nightingale and other birds. It is scored for strings, woodwinds, brass and timpani.

Johann Joseph Fux’s ‘Overture No.4 in D Major’ also portrays the nightingale, along with the cuckoo and the quail, while Jean-Philippe Rameau’s ‘6ème’ concert humorously imitates the chicken. Handel’s ‘Concerto Grosso Opus 3’, number one for strings, flutes and oboes, is also on the programme.

Tickets for this concert of intriguing music are R120 at the door. There is plenty of safe parking.
