THE three-time Pulitzer winner has written an ambitious book, Thank You for Being Late – An optimist’s guide to thriving in the age of accelerations. Friedman explains our lives today where everything is accelerated from technology to an explosion of economic interdependency to nature’s climate change.

He observes that, “The three largest forces on the planet – technology, globalisation and climate change – are all accelerating at once.” The result is that we feel overhwhelmed, insecure and uneasy as everything from the workplace to ethics and community is transformed.

To survive we have to be innovative and adaptable. We need to look at our world and see how and where we can change it to our advantage. He tells us why so many things seem to be spinning out of control and then reassures us that it is basically going to be alright. This is a hefty book filled with information, anecdotes, people’s views, interesting facts and figures.

An intense read but you come out the other side feeling more equipped to cope with the world you now understand a bit better.

Friedman is also the author of The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century, an international best-selling book that analyzes globalisation, primarily in the early 21st century.
