Local primary schools show their stuff on the athletics field

Katlehong’s Tshabalala Primary School hosted a Stream B Athletic Championship on February 1 at Huntersfield Stadium.

Stream B consists of six schools including Tshabalala (the hosts), Morojaneng Primary School, Cathula Primary School, Gabangemfundo Primary School, Orhovelani Education Centre and Thulisa Primary School.

The six schools participated in the high jump, long jump, shot put and long and short distance run.

Rebecca Lukhele, the organiser and the deputy principal of the hosting school, said they will select 120 learners from the stream.

“The 120 are going to join another 120 from Stream A.

“Stream A and Stream B are going to form a cluster – Katlehong One – that will meet on February 7 here in Huntersfield Stadium.

“That day we will be selecting the strongest team of 120 athletes to represent Katlehong One against other clusters – Katlehong Two and Katlehong Three.”

Lukhele said clusters will join other clusters formed by the schools from around Germiston and the greater town.

She said the selection process will continue until their learners are going to participate at a national level in March.

The school that got most of the points are as follow:

• The first position was Morojaneng.

• The second position was Cathula.

• Tshabalala was third.

• Thulisa fourth.

• Gabangemfundo was in fifth place.

• Orhovelani in sixth place.
