The long-awaited community meeting, scheduled for this Saturday will take place in the Ikhaya Lothando Community Centre’s hall.
This meeting, which is called for the purpose of nominating new board members, comes after the previous meeting came to an abrupt end.
During the previous meeting, fed-up community members accused the centre’s current board members of corruption.
After a war of words the irate community, which called the meeting to demand that the current board steps down with immediate effect, as well as to nominate new board members, forced the centre to end the meeting.
“Firstly, this board was not elected by us, the community. It was imposed on us and it doesn’t represent the people of Tembisa. It is currently made up of people not from Tembisa and they surely can never put our interests first. Under their watch, equipment belonging to the centre, such as stoves worth over R100 000 and a big backup generator went missing. Before this board we have never had any burglaries and this was a centre for all Tembisans,” said Humphry Mabuse, a community member.
A new date is set for August 24 and the entire community is invited.
The meeting starts at 10am.
