Things have calmed down in the central business district, although there is still a police presence with some road closures.

Festival Mall is safe.

Kempton Express is not aware of any other flare-ups.

People are being evacuated from Festival Mall.

Update 1.50pm:

Reports of rubber bullets being fired on Pretoria Road. Although the crowd is being dispersed the fear is there they might regroup and cause more chaos, so roads remain closed.

The situation in Kempton Park central business district is tense following alleged clashes between South African and Nigerian nationals earlier on Tuesday afternoon.

Streets have been closed and there is a strong police and metro police presence monitoring the situation. Shots had been fired again at 13.35pm.

According to reports from the scene shots were also fired earlier and employees at shops have been asked to leave. Shops have also been closed.

People are advised to stay clear of the area. Central Avenue and Monument Road at the corner of Long Street have been blocked.

The metro police brought in a new Nyala to disperse the crowds.
