Ivory Park’s Kgwadi Mphago aims for the prize despite challenges

Pageant finalist Kgwadi Mphago shares her journey to being Miss Royalty finalist.

Kgwadi Florence Mphago (19), who was born in Limpopo but grew up in Ivory Park Extension 15, shared her journey from school days and pageantry to being a Miss Royalty 2019 finalist.

She said it was not easy when she started pageantry but she managed to overcome every situation that she faced and grew confident.

“Modelling was not my thing at all. I remember in 2013 when I was in Grade Seven, there was a pageant at my school called Miss Ebomini. Seeing people rehearse attracted me, even though I did not know where to start,” said Mphago.

“All I remember is that my teacher approached me to join Miss Ebomini at lunchtime and I wanted to but I was hesitant.

“After joining Miss Ebomini I qualified for the finals, which was great for a first-timer, even though I did not win. I never lost hope nor did I give up.”

After passing Grade Seven Mphago went to Ivory Park Secondary School.

“The school is really impressive and good and most of the learners want to attend it because it is one of the best schools in Ivory Park.

Miss Royalty 2019 finalist Kgwadi Florence Mphago shares her story to inspire and empower others.

“I just want to thank all the teachers from Ivory Park for being there for me every step of the way. Without you guys I don’t know what would have happened to me. You have saved me. After losing two of my closest loved ones my matric year was not an easy one. It was so hard and tough. I never thought I would pass,” she continued.

“After completing my matric I went to study marketing at iCollege in Midrand. I then decided to join the Miss Royalty pageant. When I went to the auditions I had faith in myself and my capabilities and when I qualified for the finals I was happy and celebrated it with family and friends.”

Mphago added that the reason for joining the Miss Royalty pageant was that she knew that she had the strength to conquer her fears and reach anything she set her mind to.

“I want to go as far as to empower other girls and tell them they should not doubt themselves, and that it doesn’t matter what other people say about you, but what matters is what makes you happy. What I like about Miss Royalty is that they offer free training, certificates, sashes and photo shoots.”

“The Royalty family is doing a great job indeed. We do a lot of community work and even donated clothes to Tumelo Home. My coach is really good. I want to thank her for believing in me and for her encouragement,” added Mphago.

Mphago is asking the community to vote for her by liking the pageant’s Facebook page at Miss Royalty, as well as liking her photos on the page.

“To make my wishes of being the Miss Royalty Queen possible, please like my photos on Facebook and follow me on my personal account to know more about my future journey,” said Mphago.

The pageant finals are taking place on October 5. For more information visit the pageant’s Facebook page.
